Arctic Region
Located at 1000 km from the North Pole, Ny Alesund@is the northern-most town on Earth, accessible only by an icebreaker. Even in such a remote and harsh environment, people live and maintain an automobile based society. Each house is equipped with electric hookups in front of the house to keep the car battery charged. In summer, 150 scientists from all over the world (50 even in winter) stay here to study Earth's warming trend and the like. You can observe seals and walruses 24 hours a day. Night never falls in summer, you see...

Reindeers are busy grazing on the short grass that grows on the rocky ground in summer. Reindeers in this area end up with worn-out teeth as a result of hitting the rocks and the frozen ground. Photo with my husband.
Alaska
From our house in Pemberton, a helicopter took us over the mountain, and a red 15 person rubber boat took us to the sea off Vancouver. We all donned rubber outfits, and the boat glided and tumbled as it sped over the white caps. The bumpy ride tensed me up at the beginning, but I got used to it quickly and even found it fun. Killer wale couples had matching white emblems on their glistening black bodies. Their magnificent jumps were fitting displays of the princes and princesses of the sea.

In the early years of our marriage, my husband often played harmonica for me. He can add vamps and he plays it pretty well. At our house in Alaska, with my husband.
